Breckenridge Film Festival
Each year, the Breckenridge Film Festival is hosted by renowned Film Critic, Jeffrey Lyons, along with his son Ben Lyons, the E! Network Daily Top 10’s film critic. Settle into a comfy theater seat with some of the world’s greatest independent filmmakers for some of the 51 independent drama, comedy, spiritual, and documentary films. Filmlovers will relish in a unique and varied array of independent films, premieres, receptions, educational programs and retrospectives.
"There is no Festival like Breckenridge. A large Indie presence, Colorado premiers of feature films, up-close and personal with the stars but with a warmth and intimacy all its own... even if it snows in June!!! We've been doing this for 27 years. We're good at it" — Jeffrey Lyons

The GLBT Films of the Breckenridge Film Festival offers people an opportunity to explore issues dealing with the homosexual, bisexual and transgender community in a safe, entertaining environment. The GLBT Film Series is a festival within a larger non-GLBT festival. Because of this, the Breck Film Fest is able to give our filmmakers the chance to have their work shown to a larger and more diverse audience, and in the process cross boundaries and break stereotypes within the straight community. During our 2006 Festival, the film Coffee Date , was the first GLBT film to be presented with an audience favorite award for the larger festival.
Most of the films we show are submitted directly to the Film Festival while others are acquired from Festivals such as Sundance and the Gay and Lesbian Film Festivals of New York, San Francisco, and Miami. Most if not all films are Colorado debuts.
The Breckenridge Film Festival was established in 1981, making it one of the oldest film festivals in the country. It is a 501(c)(3), private, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Funding for the Festival comes from local public and private grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, individual contributions, in-kind assistance, and revenue from tickets and merchandise. More than 150 individual volunteers, four local theaters and other venues are involved in this annual event.
The mission of the Breckenridge Film Festival is to enrich lives through the ideas and emotions inspired by the art of filmmaking. The Festival is also a means to celebrate independent filmmakers, enrich the cultural community of Summit County, Colorado, and provide a educational, creative and inspirational learning environment where participants can focus on their craft and interact intimately with guest filmmakers and mentors through a four-day annual film festival and throughout the year.
