#7 Sailing Lessons in the Rocky Mountains

Yes, you heard right. Summit County is home to the highest elevation sailing regatta in the nation, and you can start training for the team right here on Lake Dillon. Head over to the Dillon or Frisco Marinas for sailing lessons on what is reputed to be one of the most challenging bodies of water to sail in the world (yes, in the world). As the local sailors put it "if you can sail Lake Dillon, you can sail anything". The unique combination of wind gusts off the surrounding mountains, paired with the fast-changing weather patterns of the high country often combine for some heart-pounding swells. #8 A Cultural Affair

Here in Colorado we may have a reputation for getting down and dirty off the beaten path, but we clean up mighty fine. If your tastes are a little more refined, Breckenridge offers a colorful summer season of music festivals, orchestral concerts and theater performances. The National Repertory Orchestra makes Breckenridge their home each summer and provides a training ground for the best of the best young musicians in the country. Take in a NRO concert at the newly constructed Riverwalk Center, or visit the local Backstage Theater for an entertaining stage performance. The Dillon Ampitheater offers an outdoor venue for music and theater all summer, hosted in part by the Lake Dillon Theater Foundation for the Performing Arts.

#9 Kingdom Days

Founded in 1859, Breckenridge was inadvertently left off the official U.S. maps and became known as “Colorado’s Kingdom” until 1936 when it was finally incorporated. Each June Breckenridge hosts "Kingdom Days" a celebration which pays homage to this fun fact and salutes the rich 149-year history of the town. Enjoy live music, family events and the infamous "outhouse races" in this two-day event. Brush up on your Breckenridge history with a historic walking tour of the town courtesy of the Summit Historical Society, through what is officially the largest historic district in the state of Colorado. The give the kid's a hand's on experience at the Country Boy Mine with mine tours and a hay ride.

#10 Tackle a Fourtneer

Take a deep breath and enjoy the view from any one of the Summit County area's 14,000+ peaks. The hike may be a thigh-burner but the accomplishment is worth it. Quandary Peak is the most popular hike in Breckenridge, but if you want to really add a notch in your belt, tackle Lincoln, Democrat and Ross. This series of three, inter-connected 14,000 foot peaks can all be summited in one day if you're willing to do the leg work. Along the way you'll enjoy stunning vistas, wildlife sightings, wildflowers in bloom and clear mountain lakes.
